The "World Trade Center" PATH Station Reopens

November 23, 2003 - New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and New Jersey Governor Jim McGreevey, along with relatives of victims of the September 11th attacks, took a ceremonial ride from the Exchange Place PATH Station in Jersey City to the World Trade Center station on the same train that was the last to carry people to safety from the World Trade Center on the morning of September 11, 2001.

The station reopened to the public on Sunday, November 23, 2003 at 2pm and, as it did before the terrorist attacks, it runs between Lower Manhattan and New Jersey and also connects to nearby subway lines.

Thousands of people gathered around the station to witness the reopening and to take the first public ride in over two years.

The construction of the World Trade Center PATH Station cost $253 million, took 16 months to rebuild and is expected to accommodate 50,000 passengers daily. It is also the first construction project to be open and available to the public since the terrorist attacks.

For the first time, passengers taking the PATH trains can use MetroCards; excluding unlimited passes.
